Earth Day, celebrated on April 22nd every year, is a chance to reflect on the importance of caring for and protecting our planet. This day was born to answer the citizens' concerns about how authorities tackle environmental care, inviting people to treat nature responsibly, minimizing pollution, and anticipating climate change.

This day also emphasizes the relevance and role of science in developing new knowledge on biodiversity and the conservation of ecosystems. Science is crucial to search for sustainable solutions for nature conservation. It allows us to know and better understand the ecosystems; therefore we can make informed decisions for their protection. This is particularly central due to the current context where we are facing alarming rates of biomass loss, change in soil usage,  and the climate change progression.

Earth Day reminds us of the importance of science when it comes to biodiversity protection and conservation. The development of new knowledge, transparency in data communication, and transmission of science towards communities and other areas are crucial to managing a sustainable future. As scientists, we must continue teamwork to protect our common home.
